Beginning February 1, 2026, travelers who arrive at airport security without a qualifying form of identification may be directed to an alternative identity verification process known as TSA ConfirmID.
This option is intended for passengers who do not have a REAL ID–compliant license or another accepted document, such as a passport.
TSA ConfirmID is described as a paid identity verification service rather than a standard screening step.
At the time of writing, TSA has indicated a fee of $45, though pricing and procedures may change as the rollout approaches.
Passengers using this option should expect the verification process to take longer than normal screening, typically around 10 to 15 minutes, with some cases taking more time.
The goal of TSA ConfirmID is to improve checkpoint security while still allowing travelers without compliant identification to proceed through screening. By adding additional verification measures, TSA aims to reduce the risk of unauthorized access to domestic flights.
Travelers who want to avoid extra screening steps and possible delays are encouraged to confirm their ID meets REAL ID standards ahead of time.
Those without a compliant ID can apply through their state’s Department of Motor Vehicles or at one of GG&D’s convenient locations in Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria, or Mesa.
Applying early can help prevent last-minute issues, especially for frequent travelers or those planning trips in early 2026.
